Guitarist Jay Nash and drummer Josh Day are The Contenders, and they have recently released their debut EP. It’s a fantastic collection of original Americana songs with strong, evocative lyrics, that are set to tunes that are both soulful and country flavored. I discovered it when I supported the campaign on Pledgemusic, and I’ve been listening to it constantly.  I’m particularly impressed by the way their voices so perfectly compliment each other.

I saw their June 27th show at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, MA, and their performance was brilliant. Though small, the venue has great acoustics, and they sounded great.
